Grande Ferro R
In the early 1990s, Alberto Burri was commissioned to design and realize a sculpture to be placed in Ravenna in the square in front of the Palazzo delle Arti e dello Sport ‘Mauro de André’. . It was part of the exhibition Percorsi nel moderno e nel contemporaneo/ Ferruzzi per l’Arte, A.A.M. Architettura Arte Moderna project in reference to the section “Opera Projects: artistic interventions within architectural projects”, conceived and coordinated by Francesco Moschini, with the support of the Ferruzzi Group.
The sculpture consists of 10 painted iron elements 9 metres high and arranged in five pairs placed frontally to form five thresholds, all equally included in a circular planimetric base. The iron elements, shaped according to broken line profiles, are stretched upwards without joining each other, thus offering themselves to different morphological interpretations.
